Why Tulsi Leaves Are Not Offered to Lord Shiva?

Why Tulsi leaves are not offered on Shivling?

According to mythological beliefs, there was an Asura named Jalandhar who was blessed with immortality because of the purity of his wife and the armor of Vishnu. Taking advantage of that, there would be panic all over the world. Due to which Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva planned to die. First, Lord Vishnu asked for his Krishna armor from Jalandhar, then Lord Vishnu hemped his wife’s purity, allowing Lord Shiva to die in Jalandhar. When Vrinda came to know about the death of her husband Jalandhar, she felt very sad. Due to which, he cursed Lord Shiva that Tulsi leaves would never be offered to him. This is the reason why Tulsi leaf is not offered in any worship of Shiva.

Use of Tulsi is also prohibited in Ganesh worship.

Tulsi was born from the share of Vrinda, wife of Asura named Jalandhar, which is accepted by Lord Vishnu as wife. Therefore, Tulsi does not worship Shiva. According to a legend, once Tulsi was wandering alone in the forest when she saw Ganesha who was sitting in meditation. Then Tulsi proposed marriage to Ganesh ji and he declined saying that she is Brahmachari due to which Tulsi cursed him for two marriages, in response Ganesh ji cursed Tulsi for marrying a demon. Therefore, the use of Tulsi is also prohibited in Ganesh worship. After getting the curse, Tulsi realizes her mistake and apologizes to Ganesha. Happy with this, Ganesha reduces his curse. And it is said that only God can give her the status of a sacred plant, then she will be free from this curse. But his leaf will not be mounted on Ganesha.

Offering Tulasi to anyone other than Lord Hari is as sinful as killing a brahmana or a cow, or having sex with a guru’s wife. Living entities of the jiva-tattva or sakti-tattva category can accept Tulasi leaves offered to the Lord. But not offered by Tulasi they can take only to offer them to Krsna. If bhoga is offered to shakti – or jiva-tattvam, Tulasi leaves can also be placed on it, for devotees always offer Her to Krishna before taking food.

Which Hindu Gods can you offer Tulsi?

Tulasi leaves are very, very dear to Vishnu. To worship the Vishnu-tattva Deities, many Tulsi leaves are required. Lord Vishnu likes Tulasi garlands. Tulasi leaves mixed with sandalwood paste and offered to the lotus feet of the Lord is the highest form of worship of Krsna.

Offering Tulasi leaves to the feet of anyone other than Lord Vishnu and His forms should be excluded. Tulasi leaves should not be offered even to the lotus feet of Radharani or the spiritual master. Tulasi is meant exclusively for worshiping the lotus feet of Krishna. However, we can place the fox Tulasi in the palm of Radharani to offer them to the lotus feet of Krishna.

Tulasi leaves can only be offered to the lotus feet of Deities belonging to Vishnu-tattva, i.e. the Deities of Krishna, Nrsimhadeva, Lord Caitanya, Nityananda Prabhu, Advaita Prabhu, etc., but they cannot be offered to the lotus feet of Radharani, Gadadhara Pandita, Srivasa Pandita or the lotus feet of the sampradaya acaryas. However, during puja, you can place a Tulasi leaf on the right hand of your spiritual master so that he can offer it to the lotus feet of Krishna.”

After all, why Shiva is not worshiped with Tulsi leaves?

According to the legend, the demon named Jalandhar, despite being part of Shiva, was his enemy. He was proud of his bravery. Being an enemy of Lord Shiva, he wants to fight Mahadev and get his place. It is believed that she got married to a girl named Vrinda to become immortal. Vrinda practiced wife religion all her life. For this reason, he is considered to be virtuous and most pious. Along with this, he had the blessing of immortality due to getting a protective shield from Lord Narayana.

But Jalandhar wanted to rule the gods due to being a demon caste. Therefore, he challenged Shiva to fight. But Vrinda was finding it difficult to kill due to her husband’s pity. This led to Lord Shiva and Vishnu thinking of a way to kill him. First of all, he took the Jalandhar armor from Lord Vishnu. After that, in the absence of Jalandhar, to take away the sanctity of Vrinda, came to his palace in the form of Jalandhar. Thus, as soon as Vrinda’s husband dissolved religion, Jalandhar’s boon of immortality also ended. In this way Lord Shiva killed him.

But when Vrinda came to know that he had been cheated, he got angry and cursed Lord Shiva that Tulsi leaves would never be kept in his worship. Thus it is forbidden to keep basil leaves forever in the worship of Shiva. Even if it is kept somewhere, it may have to bear the wrath of Lord Shiva.

Apart from Tulsi, these things also do not climb on Shivling:

Shell: The use of conch shell is important in the worship of God. Almost all the Gods and Goddesses are offered water from the conch shell, but offering water from the conch on the Shiva lingam is considered taboo. After all, why do not offer water to Shiva by a conch shell. A description is found in this regard in the Shiv Purana. One should never worship Lord Shiva with a conch. Lord Shiva is believed to have slaughtered a demon named Shankachakurna and the conch is the symbol of the same asura. Therefore, never worship Lord Shiva with a conch.

• Turmeric: Turmeric is used when worshiping God, but turmeric should not be used in worshiping Lord Shiva. Actually, turmeric is related to Lord Vishnu and good luck. Therefore it does not ascend to Lord Shiva. If you do this, your moon will start to weaken and your attention will start to wander.
• Ketki flower: Ketki flower should also not be offered to Lord Shiva. Also, offer whole rice and not broken rice. Broken rice is considered impure, so it should not be offered to them.

What’s the Best way to please Lord Shiva?

It is surprising that for most devotees of Lord Shiva, he is the easiest to please. You just need to have a pure heart, and follow Lord Shiva. As he is known as the innocent one with a pure heart. He accepts your anger, frustration and guilt as long as you genuinely accept it.

One of the best ways to please Lord Shiva is through devotion and regular worship. This can include practices such as:

• Daily puja (worship) at home or at a temple
• Recitation of Shiva mantras such as “Om Namah Shivaya”
• Offering of flowers, fruits, and other items to the deity
• Lighting of a lamp or diya in front of the deity
• Fasting on certain days of the week, such as Mondays
• Performing the Rudra Abhishekam ritual
• Participating in the Maha Shivaratri festival
• Visiting and offering prayers at a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva
• Reading and studying the holy texts such as the Shiva Purana and the Linga Purana
• Meditation and yoga practices to purify the mind and body
• Meditating and Praying upon the Shiva Yantra.

It is important to remember that true devotion and pleasing Lord Shiva is not just about performing religious rituals but also developing a good character, being kind and compassionate to others, and living a virtuous life.

You really don’t have to take the rough path to please Lord Shiva. Because it is better to just follow Lord Shiva and simply pray with a pure heart, rather than spending 20 years of mediation with a heart full of expectations from the Lord.
